Created due to the pandemic, the so-called Emergency Benefit of Preservation of Employment and Income (BEM), underwent two other extensions, the last of which was valid until this month, given the situation of public calamity, the government extended until December 31 the deadline for the reduction of working hours and wages or suspension of the employment contract. As the measures are only valid as long as the state of public calamity lasts, the agreements are expected to be closed on the last day of 2020. The government estimates it is to preserve 10 million jobs.
